The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani was founded by G D Birla, a renowned entrepreneur, who made significant contributions to the building of modern India. It is an internationally renowned all India Institute for higher learning providing highest quality engineering sciences and humanities education to students.
Technology Business Incubator (TBI)
In association with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, BITS has established a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) in the area of Embedded Systems and VLSI Design.

BITS also has a unique tradition of innovation and R&D activities and its various centers of excellence are testament to it. It is estimated that around 10% of its alumni become entrepreneurs.

As a founding member of NEN and in order to give strength to this natural tendency amongst BITSians, BITS has established the Centre for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

TBI jointly with CEL shall promote entrepreneurial leadership across all disciplines, facilitate entrepreneurial activity amongst students, and invite entrepreneurs to use TBI services so as to develop end products for commercialization.

Access to hardware and software at the state of the art Oyster Lab (VLSI design) and the Embedded Controllers Lab
Contemporary office space and conference rooms with teleconferencing facilities
Computing, fax, printing, telephone, copying facilities on a pay-per-use basis

Assistance with corporate strategies and business planning

Duration/ Equity
All companies by default have an incubation period of 12-months, extendable to 18-months at subsidized running costs
For the 18 to 24 month period, incubatee is obliged to pay standard rates and must exit at the end of the 24-month period.
TBI@BITS might charge an equity stake from an incubatee for the services rendered. The percentage would be decided on a case-to-case basis and would range within 1% and 8%.

Eligibility & requirements
Anyone can apply for incubation keeping in mind the technology product focus
All applicants must submit the completed application form & if approved, submit a 12-month business plan
Evaluation process
Initial review of the completed application form
Screening committee will consist of The Coordinator as a permanent member, and other members from within BITS Pilani and may also include industry experts.
If approved, applicant is required to submit a 12-month business plan
